Beaches
Visit many of the breathtaking beaches untouched by man that reward you with clear blue skies, refreshingly uncrowned and tranquility you will rarely find. Do not ignore warning signs indicating that a beach is hazardous for swimming, no matter how it seems to you. Not all beaches are suitable for swimming depending on the time of year, due to the seasonal winds.
Vallee de Mai a national park
Just located within the 7 km2 on the Island of Praslin, Vallee de Mai UNESCO world heritage site has been described as a ‘living museum’ due to plants it support that existed before the evolution of more advanced plant families. Sight the most extraordinary forest of ‘Coco de Mer’ palms which produce the largest seed of any plant in the world that can weigh up to 20 kg and takes 7 years to mature. Have a chance to spot the rare endemic birds including black parrot, blue pigeon, Seychelles kestrel, bulbul, sunbird and swiftlet, endemic reptile species of Seychelles including caecilians, geckos, skinks, snakes and a unique tree frog.
Aldabra Atoll
The world’s largest coral toll with an elevation of 26 feet (7.9 m) that stretches about 22 miles east to west and encloses a huge tidal lagoon. Aldabra is the original home of the tiger sharks and manta rays can also often be seen here. The atoll has about two thirds of the world’s population of Giant tortoises, about 100,000 out of a reported 150,000. It is also a habitat for the biggest crab, Indian Ocean’s Aldabra rail-the only surviving flightless bird species of its kind in the world.
Water sports
Are you water enthusiasts? Then explore Seychelles warm waters on a yacht, power boat, catamaran or sailboat. Enjoy sports like Scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, windsurfing that are extremely popular and can be done almost anywhere in Seychelles. The best time for Wind surfing activity is usually around May and in October at the start and end of the trade winds respectively. Often spotted are a wide array of tropical fish, sea turtles, eagle rays and more!
Land Sports
Biking and walking can be good sports to explore since distances are relatively short thus great ways to sightsee beautiful scenery, spot the world’s most treasured and rare species of animals, reptiles, birds and smaller islands. However on Mahe it is not advised to ride bicycles and also walking along the main roads can be quite intimidating as the roads are narrow and local vehicles drive quite quickly. Other extraordinary recreational activities available on Seychelles islands include Golf, tennis, squash, badminton, horseback riding and hiking.
Hiking
Enjoy hiking in Seychelles using numerous maintained hiking routes on the main island of Mahe and a few on Praslin. You can own a map available to be purchased from Seychelles tourism office well-describing the hiking routes or check out open street map for some hiking tracks around the islands.
