Where to Stay in Uganda

Uganda has a variety of hotels and lodges in its urban and up country remote areas like national parks respectively. There are also guest houses and hostels that offer relatively cheaper accommodation on bed and breakfast in a number of towns across the country. The hotels and lodges suit every traveler’s budget. Prices for the accommodation usually depend on the type / level of accommodation facility and services.

Budget / basic accommodation facilities offer clean budget accommodations, with limited facilities. Some of the facilities have private bathrooms and toilets, but this is not guaranteed as most budget accommodations have shared facilities.

Mid range / Deluxe accommodation facilities provide mediocre accommodations, comfortable and clean, with private bathrooms, toilets and views. Most of them have wireless internet, TV set, phone, reading table and a visitor’s seat among others.

High end accommodation facilities provide accommodation with private balconies, swimming pool, beautiful views and private facilities such as bathrooms and Toilets. They also have internet services; multi-lingual staff in case of hotels, telephone and Tv set in the room and serve international cuisines. However, hotels have different facilities from up country lodges as the later are built to blend with the environment.

Some of the high end accommodation facilities include; Sheraton and Serena hotels in Kampala which have rooms and suites, Photographing services, Shoe Shine Service, bellmen/porters, welcome drinks, shuttle service to downtown, airport pick-up and drop-off, 24-hour concierge services, luggage storage, florist, 24-hour front desk, lighted outdoor tennis court, 24-hour Business Center with high speed internet service, Squash Court and shopping facilities are also available.

Jewelry Shop, Children’s Playground, Gift Shop, 24 Hour Valet and Free Self Parking Facilities, Outdoor Pool, Laundry, travel services, air conditioned facilities, live entertainment, conference and banquet halls, and Health Club are also available. Internet Access in All Guest Rooms. They also have more than one restaurant serving both international and local cuisines and the bars are often stocked with all brands. Other luxury hotels in Kampala include Protea hotel, Grand Imperial and Imperial Royal hotels among others.

The mid range options include La Petit village, Cassia hotel and hotel Africana among many others.

These have a number of facilities and services including conference facilities, 24-hour parking services, wireless internet in guest rooms, airport pick up and drop off services, offer international and local cuisines in their restaurants and their bars are well stocked with all brands of drinks. Budget options in Kampala include Nexus Resort in Nansana, Gland Global hotel in Kikoni and Emerald hotel among many others. These offer accommodation at a cheaper price and have clean facilities with a single bar and restaurant, mostly offering local and continental dishes. Being in the urban setting, they have free wireless internet, telephone services in the rooms, private birth rooms, ample parking space and limited conference facilities among others. Uganda also has a number of up country accommodation facilities in small towns and lodges in National parks.

Up market lodges have facilities like private balconies made out of local row materials and reflecting the local architecture, swimming pool, beautiful views and private facilities such as bathrooms and Toilets, spacious rooms with comfortable beds and a well stocked bar and restaurant offering mainly local foods. Most of them have wireless internet but some may not have.

The mid range / deluxe lodges provide comfortable services, with private bathrooms, toilets and views. Some of them have wireless internet, spacious rooms with comfortable beds. They are also constructed with local materials and blend well with the environment they are in.

Budget / basic lodges have limited facilities which are shared though some have private bathrooms and toilets, but this is not guaranteed. Their rooms are not as spacious as those of luxury and mid range and they have no wireless internet. These also have fewer rooms and limited menu of dishes.

Accommodation facilities in L. Mburo National park include Mihingo lodge, Mantana luxury tented camp (luxury), Mburo safari lodge, Arcadia cottages (mid range) while Eagle’s Nest, Rwakobo Rock cottages and Rwonyo safari camp are the budget options

In Queen Elizabeth National park, Mweya Safari Lodge, Katara lodge and Kyambura game lodge are high end / luxury facilities while Queen Elizabeth Bush lodge, Ishasha wilderness camp and Enganzi lodge are mid range and Simba safari camp and King fisher lodge offer budget accommodation,
In the gorilla land of Bwindi National park, Gorilla forest camp, Gorilla mist camp, Gorilla safari lodge, Silver back lodge offer luxury accommodation while Gorilla valley lodge, Gorilla resort, Engagi lodge and Nshongi lodge are mid range and Buhoma community rest camp, Wagtail eco lodge and Bakiga lodge offer budget accommodation.

Murchison falls National Park features high end facilities like Chobe, Paraa and Nile safari lodges while Pakuba lodge and Sambiya river lodge are mid range and Murchison River lodge and Red Chilli campsite offer budget services.

The Far North east Kidepo Valley national park is remote and less visited and there are limited accommodation options with Apoka lodge offering luxury accommodation, Kakine self catering campsite and Apoka Rest camp offer basic accommodation for the low budget travelers while Nga Moru wilderness camp offer mid range accommodation services.

The Semuliki safari lodge in Semuliki National park offers high end accommodation services and those with low budget may find accommodation in the nearby Fort Portal town

In Kibale national park, Primate Lodge, Kyaninga lodge, and Ndali lodge offer luxury accommodation services while Chimp’s Nest, Kibale Forest camp and Mountains of the Moon in Fort Portal provide services to the mid range travelers and CVK, Rwenzori guest house and Chimpanzee guest house offer basic services to the low budget travelers.

In Mgahinga National park luxury accommodation services are offered at Mt. Gahinga lodge although there are a number of mid range and budget options available in the neighboring town of Kisoro.
