Visa requirements
Visas are compulsory for all visitors to Ethiopia, except Kenya and Djibouti nationals. Visitors should acquire a visa from an Ethiopian Embassy or Consulates before departure. There are three types of visas given and they include: Tourist visa, on arrival tourist visa and business visa
A. Tourist visa
- Current passport valid for at least six months
- One recent passport-size photograph.
- Copy of Green card or I-94 or Work Permit (Except US National)
- A completed visa application form (The form can be filled out online. The form should be printed and with necessary documents should be sent to the embassy or presented in person at the embassy with the proper payment in the form of money order.)
- For Eritrean and foreign nationals of Eritrean origin please fill out this Application Form too
Service fees will be paid in money order or Cashier’s Check or Certified bank check made payable to Embassy of Ethiopia - A self addressed return envelope with sufficient prepaid postage (for those using mail service)
- If all the necessary requirements are fulfilled, the visa can be issued on the next two or three business days.
Tourist visa on arrival
Tourist visa, can be issued for three months on arrival at Bole International Airport for nationals and residents of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Democratic people’s Republic of Korea (northern Korea), Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea (south Korea), the Russian Federation, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America.
NOTE: Eritreans and foreign nationals of Eritrean Origin shall not be issued a visa on Arrival. They must obtain an entry visa prior to their departure to Ethiopia.
B.Business VISA
- All business visa applicants should attach a letter addressed to Ethiopian Embassy from his /her organization explaining the purpose of his/her travels.
- US Officials or Diplomats traveling with Diplomatic, Official or Service Passport must bring an official letter from US State Department.
- Officials or Diplomats of other countries traveling with Diplomatic, official or service Passport must bring official letter from appropriate Authorities or Embassies.
- The passport must be valid for at least six months.
- One recent passport-size photograph.

Types and cost
Tourist visa on arrival: US$20; tourist, transit and business visas obtained in advance: £14 (single-entry); £22 (multiple-entry).
Single- or multiple-entry tourist visa valid for up to two years: US$70; one-month single-entry business visa: US$20; three-month multiple-entry business visa: US$30; six-month multiple-entry business visa: US$50.
Validity
Single-entry: 30 days; multiple-entry: three months.
All visas will be valid from the date of issue.
