African pride was at stake on the final day of the English Premier League as trio including Egypt’s and Liverpool’s Mohamad Salah, Senegal and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Gabon and Arsenal Pierre Emerick Aubameyang finished the campaign as joint top scorers with 22 goals each.

Mane and Aubameyang scored two goals each for their clubs on the final day two take their tally to 22 to catch up with their Egyptian counterpart.

 Aubameyang scored twice in the space of 11 minutes in the second half in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor before Ashley Barnes pulled one back for the home side. Eddie Nketiah sealed Arsenal’s win with a last-gasp goal in the 90+4th minute.

Sadio Mane scored in both halves to keep Liverpool’s chances of winning their first ever Premier League title alive though it did not materialize as Manchester City registered victory at Brighton to secure their second successive league title.

Mane and Salah’s scoring form will be boost Senegal’s and Egypt’s chances of success in the Africa Cup of Nations which is due to start this June in Egypt.

Liverpool missed out on winning their first ever Premier League title by just one point despite their impressive campaign that saw them finish second to Manchester City (98 points) with 97 points.

Their hope for success will now be turned to the Champions League final in which they face fellow English rivals Tottenham on 1st June in Madrid.

The win will see Liverpool lift their 6th Champions League trophy while it will be the first for Tottenham if they triumph over Jürgen Klopp’s men.

Aubameyang’s Arsenal finished fifth with 70 points and they will also be hoping to win their Europa League final against Chelsea on 29th May in Baku as he only way left for them to qualify for Champions League football next season.

A loss to Chelsea will mean that Arsenal will be heading back into the Europa League next season for a third consecutive year after failing to finish in top four for the previous three campaigns.

Chelsea and Tottenham sealed Champions League football next season after finishing third and fourth with 72 and 71 points respectively.

Manchester United had one of their worst campaigns this season after finishing 6th in the table with 66 points and this confirms that there will no Champions League football next season for the Red Devils.

They will be heading for Europa League as coach Ole Gunnar Solsejaer heads into a busy and tough summer campaign to find the suitable players who can revive the English giants their glory days.

The other end of the table had Huddersfield, Fulham and Cardiff City relegated to Championship next season after finishing in the last three positions on the table.
